About The Position

Are you a morning person? Do you love waking up with the sun and keeping viewers in the know? KBAK/KBFX Eyewitness News has an opening for you. We are looking for an energetic, engaging, and personable anchor to help grow our audience in the mornings on our 4 1/2-hour morning newscast. The successful candidate is a team player and leader with excellent interviewing skills, and a proven ability to skillfully ad-lib in any live situation. As the morning anchor, team leader, you should understand that the job doesn't end when we're off the air. Must be able to engage the audience in an authentic way as someone the audience loves watching and wants to watch on a regular basis. To be successful in this role, you need to demonstrate poise and presence on camera while practicing strong journalism skills through every step of the newscast-producing process. This is NOT a position for someone just starting their career. This is NOT for someone who just wants to read copy on camera.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast Journalism or related degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum two years' experience in news reporting or anchoring.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Present news under pressure during live newscasts as well as outside regularly scheduled newscasts.
  • Gather information, write, and edit newsworthy content including covering breaking/spot news, general news, and feature stories.
  • Work with the producer to find engaging topics for conversation during the newscast.
  • Write web stories, headlines, and news updates.
  • Fill-in anchoring duties on other newscasts as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a network of news sources providing access to exclusive local news stories.
  • Perform MMJ field work as needed.
  • Perform various community service activities for the station, including attending community events, performing as master of ceremonies for public service events, and as host/hostess for station events.
  • Produce weekly single topic health related newscast.
