About The Position

WKBN 27 First News is searching for a dynamic, passionate, capital-“J” Journalist to join our award‑winning team. This person will anchor four hours each morning on our #1‑rated local newscasts on CBS and FOX, and co‑produce and anchor our Noon newscast. We’re looking for someone who brings strong journalistic instincts, on‑air confidence, and a commitment to serving the community. Experience on the anchor desk is required. This is an ideal opportunity for a standout reporter seeking their first primary anchor role, or for an anchor/reporter in a smaller market ready to take the next step. At 27 First News, our anchors are working journalists—actively involved in daily newsgathering across every screen and platform. You must be equally comfortable delivering breaking news on‑air, publishing digital content, engaging with viewers on social media, and representing the station through community involvement. 27 First News is rooted in viewer advocacy journalism. Our work is designed to serve the people of the Mahoning Valley—reflecting their challenges, their triumphs, and their daily realities. We cover big‑city stories in a tight‑knit community and believe deeply in the importance of local news. And you’ll live in a community with great food, Midwestern warmth, and one of the largest metroparks in the country. Whether you enjoy early‑morning hikes in Mill Creek MetroParks, winery weekends, or quick trips to Pittsburgh or Cleveland, Youngstown offers an affordable, high‑quality lifestyle. Applicants must include a link to their reel and a brief cover letter explaining why they’re the right fit for this role. JOB SUMMARY: Deliver engaging, accurate, and concise newscasts; contribute to daily content creation; and represent 27 First News across on‑air, digital, and community platforms.
