About The Position

Haverhill Public Schools is seeking Educational Support Personnel for Special Education. This is a full-time position requiring a commitment of 4 days per week, with a preference for bilingual candidates. The role is based at Moody Pre School Extension and involves working either a ten-month schedule (182 days) or a twelve-month schedule (227 days), with daily hours ranging from 6 to 7 hours. The effective date of employment is for the 2025-2026 school year, and the salary is based on the Educational Support Personnel Salary Scale, starting at $21.32 per hour for an Associate Degree and $24.36 per hour for a Bachelor Degree.

Requirements

  • Passing score on the Para Pro Test or other state-approved assessment program or 48 college credits.
  • Associate Degree or equivalent.
  • Willingness to accept direction and cooperate with all staff.
  • Prior experience working with children in a school or similar setting preferred.
  • Ability to move in and out of an office, classrooms, buildings, and up and down stairs.
  • Strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds and assist with students weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs, kneel, and move easily on and off floor mats.
  • Good judgment and ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
  • Sensitivity to and respect for the problems of children.
  • Traits of resourcefulness, thoroughness, initiative, patience, courtesy, dependability, and enthusiasm.
  • Computer literate and ability to learn and use Assistive Technology.
  • Ability to use online platforms through Google Meets and Google Classroom.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for classroom instructional events and other educational or non-educational activities under the supervision of a certified teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies and interventions for reinforcing material or skills based on individual student needs.
  • Provide positive and appropriate role models for students and treat them with respect.
  • Work directly with children to provide class support in academics, social skills, self-care, and vocational tasks.
  • Assist with addressing student behavior and encouraging effort in the classroom.
  • Use online platforms such as Google Meets and Google Classroom for instruction.
  • Complete onboarding process and familiarize with students' IEPs and district policies.
  • Communicate with teachers regarding specific instruction for students.
  • Assist in behavioral interventions and achieve Safety Care certification.
  • Implement treatment plans, safety plans, and behavior plans for students.
  • Collect data as instructed.
  • Work as a member of a team with other staff members.
  • Apply ABA strategies and execute discrete trials and de-escalation techniques.
  • Assist in toileting certain students with disabilities if required.
  • Lift and carry certain students with disabilities per IEP if required.
  • Reinforce material introduced by the teacher and assist with self-help and independence skills.
  • Implement remedial and review exercises as outlined by the teacher.
  • Aid independent study, enrichment, or remedial work as provided by the teacher.
  • Help students master instructional tasks assigned by teachers.
  • Assist in test taking and use of instructional technology.
  • Observe and make notes on student performance and behaviors.
  • Implement curriculum modifications or accommodations designed by professional staff.
  • Escort and supervise students throughout the school.
  • Proctor testing and provide make-up work assistance.
  • Assist in administrative duties during normal school hours.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
