About The Position

Centro Tyrone Guzman is Minnesota’s oldest and leading Latine-serving organization, dedicated to improving the well-being of Latine families through a holistic, intergenerational approach to education, health, and wellness. Our programs span the entire lifespan: from early childhood (Siembra Montessori) to youth engagement (Raíces and Be@School), maternal and family wellness, and older adult services (Adult & Aging). The Montessori Aide supports the Lead Guide and Assistant in creating a harmonious, well-prepared classroom that promotes children’s autonomy and respect for the Montessori cycle. Additionally, the Aide is responsible for continuous supervision of children, assisting with meal distribution, maintaining cleanliness in the classroom, and ensuring children's safety in all environments. This role aligns with the Montessori principles and the mission of the Siembra School and Centro Tyrone Guzmán.

Requirements

  • Must have the Orientation Course or any other experience as the Lead Guide or Assistant training, or complete it on hire
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are a must.
  • Ability to work not only with children but also with families and other staff members.
  • Meet DHS Rule requirements.
  • Commit to Centro Tyrone Guzman’s mission and vision and program goals.
  • Have in-depth understanding of, and appreciation for Latine cultures.
  • Have in-depth understanding/experience working with LGBTQ+ Latine Youth.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Latine immigrant issues, including, but not limited to generational and cultural differences between youth and parents, barriers to educational opportunities, social determinants of health, impact of undocumented status in the areas of employment/housing/social services, trauma, domestic and community violence.
  • Commitment to working with Latine communities in a culturally supportive environment and a sincere desire to have a meaningful positive effect on their lives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with families and staff of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Be sensitive to different opinions, sentiments, and cultural beliefs.
  • Must have Child First Aid/CPR certification or complete upon hire.
  • Must pass DHS Background Check.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Position is subject to a background check and requires a valid Minnesota driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic technical studies in any area, preferably social or educational, are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining the classroom environment by preparing materials, organizing spaces, and conducting minor repairs as needed.
  • Supervise children in the classroom and/or playground.
  • Interact with children respectfully and in accordance with Montessori pedagogy.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the classroom and ensure the classroom is organized and well-prepared.
  • Observe children daily, assisting with activities as directed by the Lead Guide and providing supportive care to children as they explore independently.
  • Support both the Lead Guide and Assistant by ensuring all Montessori materials and spaces are ready and conducive to independent learning.
  • Model respectful, inclusive behavior, engaging with children in a way that supports their growth and selfdiscovery.
  • Maintain confidentiality and contribute to a supportive, anti-bias environment where each child feels secure.
  • Communicate any issues to the Lead Guide promptly and objectively, helping to maintain clear roles and responsibilities in the classroom.
  • Foster independence and respect social boundaries, especially if working with a personal connection in the classroom.
  • Assist with meal service.
  • Respect the confidentiality of records and information about children, families, and staff per ethical guidelines and federal/state laws.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Siembra Program Manager
