The Salvation Army is hiring for the position of Monitor in the Shelter Department located at 344 N 7th Street, Allentown, PA. The position is available ASAP and offers various schedules including full-time (35 hours per week), part-time (20-28 hours), and on-call opportunities. The Monitor will report to the Shelter Director and is responsible for enforcing hospitality rules, training new monitors, providing security, and maintaining cleanliness in the shelter. The salary for this position ranges from $12 to $13 per hour, classified as Grade 71, Non-Exempt.

  • Understand and enforce Hospitality Rules and Regulations.
  • Enforce the Employee Code of Ethics.
  • Be punctual for all scheduled shifts.
  • Follow proper call-off procedures.
  • Be available to cover shifts as needed.
  • Orient and train newly hired monitors.
  • Report resident infractions or concerns to the Director or Caseworker.
  • Provide coverage and security at the front desk.
  • Distribute daily mail to guests.
  • Complete meal logs for guests who eat at the shelter.
  • Serve meals and clean common areas including the kitchen and bathrooms.
  • Complete laundry as needed.
  • Provide residents with toiletries, bed linens, and blankets.
  • Clean out rooms as residents exit the shelter.
  • Read the daily logbook and complete daily tasks.
  • Document important events or supplies needed in the logbook.
  • Complete all assigned tasks on the daily chore list.
  • Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages, and forward them appropriately.
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred, but a High School Diploma or GED with experience is acceptable.
  • Understanding of the philosophy and mission of The Salvation Army is required.
  • Active Salvationist status is a plus.
  • Completion of Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 including PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check, with renewals every 5 years.
