About the position

The Monitor Clerk monitors patients EKG rhythm patterns on electrocardiograph monitors. Makes note of irregular rhythms and monitors changes in rhythms. Ensures that monitors are functioning properly. Assists the clinical staff by performing a variety of clerical tasks that ensure the efficiency of the unit and provide outstanding customer service to our patients and visitors. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Interpretation & Reporting of Cardiac Monitoring: Cardiac rhythms are accurately interpreted and recorded monitor strips on the cardiac monitoring form on all telemetry patients every 8 hours and as needed.
  • Dysrhythmias are immediately recognized and reported to the nurse as evidenced by lack of complaints.
  • Interference and artifact is recognized and is able to troubleshoot and correct problems as needed.
  • Limitations in cardiac interpretation are recognized and seeks consultation immediately whenever appropriate.
  • Telemetry transmitter is dispensed and retrieved as needed.
  • Collaboration & Partnership: Accurately and in a timely manner communicates all pertinent patient care information, complaints and general environmental information (hazards, breakage) to the Manager/Charge Nurse at all times.
  • Accurately and appropriately receives, places, and transfers phone calls, and records and communicates messages; efficiently and accurately uses phones, intercoms and computer as evidenced by lack of complaints.
  • Patient Medical Record: The patient chart and/or patient Kardex is maintained in the appropriate order and ensures that all forms are labeled with the correct patient identification label; ensures that the chart is prepared for transfer to Medical Records upon discharge of the patient.
  • Clinical data is accurately recorded within specified timeframes on the patient chart as instructed by the nurse or physician.
  • Unit library information, reference materials, appropriate policy/procedure manuals (hospitals, department, regulating bodies, government agencies) is accurately and orderly maintained on the unit as evidenced by easy retrieval.
  • Other Duties As Assigned: Other duties as assigned or requested are completed.

Requirements

  • None
  • High School or equivalent
  • Successful completion of the Monitor Tech course within six months
  • Communication, Customer Service, computer Skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Able to use office equipment.
