About The Position

As a Monitor Technician you will perform a critical role in providing efficient patient care throughout the facility. You will monitor the cardiac rhythms of between 40 and 60 patients. Using your excellent attention to detail and communication skills, you will quickly escalate recognized dangerous rhythms and other changes to our clinical staff team. This is a full time DAY shift position working three 12-hour shifts per week. Our team utilizes a rotating weekend and holiday schedule. You will have the opportunity to utilize our self-scheduling tool as well as enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential when applicable. POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for continuous observation of patients’ monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors, and for reporting pertinent changes and abnormalities to the appropriate clinical staff. This position is also responsible for maintaining logs of activity and changes or behaviors in accordance with facility standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Current BLS certification may be required in certain departments. Current BLS certification is required for Banner Staffing Services (BSS) monitor technicians.
  • Depending on department assignment, completion of unit approved basic electrocardiogram -OR- electroencephalographic interpretation course or on the job training – and - a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG -OR- EEG test, with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias - OR - epileptiform activity.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Requires effective interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous observation of monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors for assigned patients. Must be aware of pertinent medical history, medications and code status for each of their assigned patients. Alerts appropriate clinical staff of any changes and abnormalities.
  • Obtains calibrated rhythm strips per policy and maintains documentation in accordance with facility standards. Documents changes in clinical and/or behavioral activity.
  • Provides information and summaries to physicians and staff.
  • Monitors and assists in the maintenance of monitoring equipment.
  • May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.
  • Works under general supervision. Interacts with all levels of staff within the facility, physicians, patients, families and external contacts and vendors.
