GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES – Cardiac Monitor Technicians are responsible for utilizing telemetry monitoring equipment to simultaneously watch several patients’ heart rhythms. Technicians observe, listen, respond to alarms, identify changes, and report changes to the nursing staff. Technicians also obtain measurements from the telemetry strips, and report abnormalities to nursing staff. On occasion this position will require work to be performed in areas that may be accessible to pharmaceuticals. This position will not be granted access to automated dispensing machines.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills
  • Detail oriented to follow directions from nurses and doctors
  • Ability to learn/understand electrical cardiac conduction system
  • With training perform rhythm recognition and identification of abnormal cardiac rhythms
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Completion of an orientation
  • Completion of telemetry interpretation competency
  • health care experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer prior experience as a Monitor Tech
  • CNA, EMT-B, CRRT, Unit Secretary, LPN, OR RN – Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with admissions, discharges and transfers of patients for telemetry as directed
  • Observe, listen, respond to alarms, identify changes, and report changes to nursing staff
  • Completing documentation for the telemetry patients’.
  • Collaborating with the nurse to prioritize care
  • Completing required competencies and training within assigned time frame.
  • Exercising safe judgment in decision making and demonstrating tact and understanding when dealing with patients, team members, members of other disciplines, and the public.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to changes in operational practice and responding in a positive manner to constructive criticism.
  • Demonstrating accountability by attending 100% of all mandatory in-services
  • Adjusting schedule to meet unit’s needs
  • Identifying potential and ongoing department and organizational wide QI improvement opportunities, participating in processes necessary to initiate and support change
  • Other duties as assigned.
