About The Position

Passed the on-line course modules, phlebotomy training and skills validation for basic and advanced skills with an 80% passing rate or higher. Successful completion of the EKG/telemetry course and/or competency demonstration. Demonstration of telemetry competency requires the achievement on the telemetry course final exam of an overall 90% and 100% on lethal rhythms and annual review. Observe and examine the heart monitors of various patients and detecting and reporting on abnormalities and inconsistencies, such as irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year in a .6fte or greater Monitor Technician I position at MUSC or 1 year of Monitor Technician/Telemetry work experience in a health care facility and succeful completion of the EKG training/competency during the orientation period in order to remain in the Monitor Technician II position.
  • Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and examine the heart monitors of various patients
  • Detect and report on abnormalities and inconsistencies, such as irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia
