About The Position

The Monitor Technician plays a crucial role in the observation and documentation of cardiac rhythms for telemetry patients. This position involves continuous monitoring, assessment, and communication of any changes in cardiac rhythms to the assigned nursing staff, ensuring timely responses to physician inquiries and maintaining optimal patient care. The technician also monitors seizure patients via video, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Requirements

  • Fluent in English with advanced reading, writing, and oral skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browsing.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to make independent judgments.
  • Ability to utilize PC including basic elements of Windows environment and keyboarding.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in patient monitoring and EKG interpretation.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance indicators in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously observes, evaluates, and recalls cardiac rhythms of telemetry patients.
  • Effectively performs video monitoring of seizure patients.
  • Accurately interprets cardiac rhythms and measures EKG intervals.
  • Recognizes dysrhythmias or changes in EKG complex promptly.
  • Monitors Q waves, ST segment, and QT intervals, noting changes.
  • Documents EKG rhythm strip at the beginning of each shift and all changes in rhythms or EKG complex.
  • Gives concise, complete end-of-shift reports and EKG rhythm reports to the RN.
  • Interacts with physicians regarding inquiries and reports any interruptions in heart rhythm reception.
  • Ensures proper function of monitoring equipment and maintains adequate supplies.
  • Uses problem-solving skills to optimize monitoring equipment and address failures.
  • Maintains responsibility for controlling equipment and supplies, restocking as needed.
  • Completes certification EKG tests and participates in continuing education.
  • Assists peers in assignment completion and maintains open communication.
