Requirements

  • American Heart Association BLS CPR certification
  • Must possess effective interpersonal / communication skills
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Must have a working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Must have a working knowledge of computer data entry
  • Must have legible handwriting and the ability to decipher other’s handwriting
  • Must be able to prioritize and apply common sense understanding to carry out verbal or written instructions
  • Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, stretch, reach, bend and to be able to see, hear and work in a stressful environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support efficient operations of the nursing unit.
  • Utilize skills in reception, transcription, maintaining medical records and clerical duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • The Monitor Tech (MT) will maintain a baseline level of ECG monitoring for all ordered patients, detect and alert nursing staff to significant dysrhythmias, and perform continuous monitoring and intermittent recording on patients in crisis.
  • Respond promptly to monitor alarms and takes appropriate action.
  • Record, interpret, post and report rhythms on all monitored patients at the scheduled times and as needed.
  • Recognize dangerous dysrhythmias and promptly notify the appropriate nurse caring for the patient and the ICU/PCU Clinical Lead assigned to the patient.
  • Recognize significant rhythm changes, record them, and notify the ICU/PCU Clinical Lead assigned to the patient.
  • Give report to oncoming MT, reflecting the last 12 hours of patient activity.
  • Run rhythm strips, identify rhythm, and deliver to appropriate ICU/PCU Clinical Lead assigned to the patient.
  • The MT will initial each strip.
  • The MT will maintain a flow sheet documenting each patient’s rhythm and ectopy over the course of the day. Documentation to be every eight hours.
  • All continuing artifacts should be investigated by the MT and adjustments made as needed.
  • The MT will perform routine and troubleshooting activities related to equipment maintenance, equipment checks, and report any malfunctions to the ICU/PCU designated Charge Nurse.
  • Complete the validation check list assuring all monitors are allocated and labeled accurately.
