About The Position

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. The Telemetry/Thoracic/Cardiovascular Unit provides care to patients admitted to the unit. This is a 32 bed surgical telemetry unit, patient having surgical procedures who may have development an arrhythmias. Shift: 3 x 12 hours: 7pm to 7am including rotating weekends and holidays. Function- Responsible for the continuous observation, identification and documentation of changes in patient cardiac rate/rhythm. Scope- Impacts outcome of patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 year Prior experience in EKG / cardiac monitoring.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a basic cardiac arrhythmia course.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and documents EKG / cardiac rhythm, non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) and pulse oximetry (Sp02).
  • Promptly reports changes in cardiac rhythms to nurse.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of all admissions/discharges/transfers and associated telemetry logs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
