About The Position

The Telemetry Technician is responsible for monitoring and reporting patients' heart rhythm status using telemetry equipment. This role involves observing cardiac monitors, identifying abnormal variations, and informing nursing staff of any variances. The technician also reviews patient information, measures heart rhythm patterns, and maintains patient records. Additional duties include answering calls for nursing staff, completing order entry, and potentially performing EKGs as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED equivalent.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Verbal and writing ability required to communicate effectively in informing employees of activities and policies.
  • Numerical ability required.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions.
  • Ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Ability to comply with attendance requirements.
  • Ability to comply with Human Resource policies.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Handle multiple priorities and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Manage anger, fear, hostility, and stress appropriately.
  • Work alone effectively and with others in close proximity in a distracting environment.

Nice To Haves

  • EKG Certification is preferred.
  • 1 – 3 years Telemetry experience preferred or experience as a PCT, CNA, EMT or Medical Assistant within a hospital setting preferred.
  • Skilled in Microsoft office products and Meditech experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors heart rhythm pattern of patients in telemetry status of the hospital to detect abnormal pattern variances, using telemetry equipment.
  • Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances.
  • Observes screen of cardiac monitor and listens for alarm to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm.
  • Informs patients nurse, charge nurse, or house supervisor of variances to initiate examination of patient.
  • Measures length and height of patient’s heart rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout using calipers, and posts information on patients records every four hours and with any variances.
  • Answers calls for nursing staff and completes order entry in Meditech, and all other assigned duties as determined by Supervisor, Charge RN, House Supervisor, or Manager as needed.
  • May perform EKG’s as directed by nursing staff.
  • Observe and report patient’s needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
