About The Position

The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors, including rhythm interpretation, documenting of patient information according to protocol, and providing RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The result of successful performance in this position contributes significantly to the overall well-being of the patient.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of cardiac arrhythmia classes and ability to interpret cardiac rhythms within six months of hiring.
  • Prior medical terminology or medical office coursework preferred.
  • Six months of nursing assistant or prior clerical experience in a healthcare field.
  • Minimum of one year nursing assistant experience preferred.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Ability to document accurately and timely.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.
  • Monitors patient’s heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards.
  • May initiate and discontinue monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge.
  • Performs configuration, troubleshooting, cleaning and tracking of devices as necessary.
  • Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Centralized Monitoring.
  • Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers.
  • Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
