About The Position

As a member of the Money Management Center within the broader Student Success Center, the Money Coach serves as a resource and advocate for all ETAMU students, including former students who have stopped out without earning a degree, by working individually with those facing barriers and unique financial situations that challenge their persistence at East Texas A&M University. This position shall utilize campus resources from beyond the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships and the Cashier’s Office to provide a balanced service that addresses student concerns at their cause. The Money Coach collects information from students, the student information system, and campus stakeholders to establish specific areas of focus, and works with all campus stakeholder groups to find next steps and resolutions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Must be comfortable speaking before groups of students, family members, and colleagues.
  • The ability to communicate calmly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, with students, family members, fellow employees, college administrators, and other constituents of the University is required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills are required.
  • The ability to organize large volumes of work, work independently, evaluate, and determine the correct course of action is required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to all publics and strong organizational and time management skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • A thorough and working knowledge of federal, state, and East Texas A&M University laws, regulations, practices, and procedures about student financial aid is preferred.
  • Experience with Ellucian software (Banner) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Connects individually with students by email, phone, virtually, or in person as determined to be appropriate for the concerns being expressed related to college costs, financial aid, and scholarships.
  • Serves as MMC representative in weekly Student Success After-Hours programming, being available and on-site during evening hours (roughly 5:00-7:00p one to two nights per week)
  • Creates instructions and coaches students through the process of outlining their goals and objectives for financial wellness within the scope of their pursuit of higher education.
  • Review student academic, scholarship, financial aid, and billing information before coaching for an accurate account of the student’s history and factors that may contribute to the present concern.
  • Gathers information from the student and other involved individuals to effectively address concerns raised by the student.
  • Applies prior knowledge of the student’s situation and knowledge of financial aid and institutional rules and regulations to address concerns raised by the student and effectively resolve a solution.
  • Collaborate with College Life Coaches, Career Navigators, Academic Advisors, Competency Based Education (CBE) Student Success team members, and Graduate School support staff in delivering relevant support and services to students.
  • Prepares informational and educational publications, and participates in student support or recruitment events in partnership with CBE and Graduate School staff
  • Coordinates and assists in planning in-service training programs
  • Counsels and advises students – and in particular graduate students and CBE students – on personal and educational matters
  • Contributes to broad-based management of the financial wellness programming by providing input to office policy and procedure decisions and delivering presentations at events across campus.
  • Assists in the advising of a variety of student groups/organizations through programming.
  • Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the supervisor of the Money Management Center.
  • Helps to guide students in planning and scheduling social and budgetary procedures
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Money Management Center by performing all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
