About The Position

The Check-In Camp Nurse at Camp Harkness is responsible for all aspects of nursing care, medications, and implementing agency policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants. Will provide first aid, medication administration, camper health assessment, and emergency care to campers. She/he will ensure compliance with all state and regulatory reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Minimum of 3-5yrs exp. in a clinical setting, preferably serving individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
  • Experienced with Department of Developmental Services regulations, forms, and protocols.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suit
  • Current State of CT RN License or LPN License
  • The Nurse must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Will be required to participate in lifts, transfers, and behavioral or physical intervention during emergency situations.
  • May be exposed to the risk of injury or exposure to occupational health hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Review all medical paperwork to ensure completeness of forms
  • Intake all camper medication on registration day- checks labels to ensure medications match Dr’s orders on file- ensure accuracy of printed Kardexes- follow up with physicians as needed if discrepancies noted. Monitor medication supplies and notify care providers if additional medications are needed.
  • Confer with care provider in specific needs of campers
  • Arrange and organize medication cabinet
  • Arrange and organize topical bins of medications approved to be administered by non-certified personnel.
  • Complete count sheets for controlled drugs according to medication administration procedures
  • Provide medical assessment for campers and staff (first aid/health conditions) and document in bound nursing log
  • Provide first aid to campers and staff as necessary
  • Provide emergency treatment- assess campers ability to remain at camp following injury or illness
  • Consult with individuals primary care physicians as needed
  • Ensures confidentiality as required by law and the Arc and DDS policies and procedures which includes keeping records, conversations, correspondence (regarding program participants and staff) confidential.
  • Maintains a mature and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public, and outside representatives.
  • Advocates for and protects participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures.
  • Treats all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and to encourage opportunities that promote choice.
  • Carries out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.
  • Scheduled Mondays 2pm-6pm
  • Will report concerns to Residential Nurse in a timely manner
