The Molecular Virology Lead Scientist directs research aimed at characterizing viral genomes, evaluating candidate vaccines and therapeutics, and supporting biodefense initiatives through laboratory and collaborative efforts. Leads the Molecular Virology research group, advancing understanding of viral mechanisms and guiding vaccine and antiviral development.

Requirements

  • Proficient in qPCR, Western blotting, and gene editing tools.
  • Familiar with regulatory guidelines for therapeutic development.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in a relevant field of the life sciences with experience in a research laboratory.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in several areas and ability to conduct independent research through publication of technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience managing a research laboratory and a small cadre of technicians.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Master's degree in virology, microbiology, or related field.
  • Minimum 6+ years in molecular virology and laboratory research leadership.
  • Experience in viral genome manipulation and reverse genetics.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • ACTIVE SECRET security clearance is preferred.
  • Ph.D. strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments investigating viral gene function.
  • Lead assay development and in vitro infection studies.
  • Analyze transcriptional, translational, and mutational profiles.
  • Maintain compliance with GLP and biosafety regulations.
  • Supervise laboratory staff and coordinate project execution.
  • Execute assigned tasks and share findings with project team members.
  • Write reports and publications, and present findings in meetings.
