About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Molecular Technologist Trainee to join its Invitae Genetics lab in Iselin, NJ. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm Address: 485F Route 1 South - Suite 110, Iselin, NJ 08830 Responsibilities: Responsible for specimen handling and processing, with a strong emphasis in nucleic acid extractions, following the laboratory's pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintaining records of tests Carries out day-to-day tasks including prepping for and executing nucleic acid extractions Isolates nucleic acids using manual methods and/or automated instrumentation ensuring the delivery of high-quality purified samples for downstream assays Follows written lab procedures for the correct handling and processing of samples in accordance with standards set forth in standard operating procedures (SOPs) Operates laboratory instruments and performs routine maintenance & procedural calibrations Maintains projects and sample information, protocols, and experimental details through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Assists in the orientation and training of new employees Performs quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records Maintains records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens Adheres to the laboratory’s quality assurance procedures including documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications and preventive maintenances Identifies and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance and notifies the supervisor, assistant director(s) or director Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications This is a great entry level opportunity to join an innovative laboratory and receive training that will help the individual grow in a career in the molecular diagnostics field! Pay-Range: $25.19- $30.00/hour All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Comfortable handling biological specimens
  • Ability to accurately identify specimens
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and thoroughly follow up on assigned tasks
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to work in collaborative, flexible work environment
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years laboratory experience
  • 1 or more years molecular laboratory experience
  • 1 or more years Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) experience
