MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with human resources on staffing needs, including interviewing, hiring, training, discipline, terminating employees. Plan, assign and direct work; conduct performance reviews; develop, coach, and mentor team members; and work with human resources on personnel issues that arise. Ensure mold maintenance employees are compliant with company policy and federal and state labor laws. Work proactively with Manufacturing Manager and effectively coordinate mold changes, insert changes, and preventative mold maintenance schedule to minimize planned and unplanned downtime production issues. Communicate with Quality Assurance to determine customers' requirements and verify quality standards are being met. Ensure daily rundown information is being communicated to proceeding shifts and departments as needed. May provide input on new tool designs and work with Tooling Engineer on new and existing mold requirements. Assist and/or develop work instructions for special projects and new products. Maintain an organized, efficient spare parts inventory for all molds and hot runners and identify those parts deemed as critical and maintain acceptable level of spare parts. Maintain and lead safe and healthy work environment by following company safety procedures and complying with legal regulations as defined by OSHA. Instill safe work practices within the department Establish, lead, and maintain good housekeeping procedures within the department. Troubleshoot and diagnose mold issues. May be required to make replacement parts using tool room equipment. Disassemble mold and clean components. Inspect the mold for any signs of wear or damage. Look for worn or broken components such as springs, pins, bushings, switches, etc. Inform Maintenance Manager and/or Tool Room of any mold condition concerns. Assist with the direction of others in the department and under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, provide training/mentoring to Mold Maintenance Technicians. Collect molds after production runs. Examine last shot(s) and mold to see if repair is tagged "Needs Repair." Review QA Alerts and follow through on corrective action(s) as needed. Install replacement parts and perform minor mold repair activities (such as vent, polish, stone, wiring repairs, etc.). Assemble and test mold, attach a tag "Production Ready" verifying the work has been completed. Return the mold to the proper location. Act as the Backup-Supervisor when the Maintenance Manager is absent. May direct work of the Mold Maintenance Technicians Work closely with production and quality teams daily to understand, identify, and correct mold issues and production needs Assist supervisor to prioritize jobs and hand out work assignments Able to perform intermediate mold repairs (engrave cav. I.D., check a S.O. for accuracy, etc..) Able to trouble shoot intermediate electrical issues on molds Able to trouble shoot intermediate molding problems Able to train Mold techs at level 1&2 Track inventory of new and spare parts
