About The Position

The Mold Maintenance and Repair Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of injection molds to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, improving production efficiency, and maintaining the quality of molded parts.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in mold maintenance and repair in an injection molding environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in mold making or industrial maintenance is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of mold construction, including hot runner systems, hydraulic/pneumatic actuated tools, and multi-cavity molds.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tool drawings, and technical documents.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.).
  • Experience using manual machining equipment (grinders, lathes, mills) is highly preferred.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and mechanical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on all injection molds based on maintenance schedules.
  • Lead and participate in formal problem-solving, including formal reporting for internal and external customers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair injection molds, including addressing issues such as flash, short shots, galling, wear, and misalignment.
  • Support the Global cross-functional teams with projects and initiatives.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble molds using proper techniques and tools.
  • Conduct data analysis and develop reports to support production operations.
  • Diagnose mold-related production issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify and support areas for improvement and make recommendations to increase efficiency and effectiveness based on the KPI matrix.
  • Inspect, test, and repair hot runner systems, including manifolds, heaters, thermocouples/open and valve gate systems.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records for all mold tools, including work performed, findings, and parts replaced.
  • Identify spare parts needed, control spare part inventory and reorder parts used.
  • Inspect mold components (ejector pins, slides, lifters, cavities, cores, etc.) for wear or damage and replace as necessary.
  • Work with the production team and process engineers to identify and resolve mold-related issues.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors or tool shops for mold modifications, welding, or machining when required.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the mold maintenance area and tool crib.
  • Recommend improvements to tooling design, maintenance practices, or component selection to improve reliability and performance.
