About The Position

The Mold Designer position is a critical role within the plastics industry, focusing on the creation of detailed plans and designs for thermoplastic and thermoset molding applications. This position requires a high level of precision and quality in molded products, making it essential for the success of manufacturing processes. The Mold Designer will utilize advanced CAD software such as Pro Engineer, CREO, and SolidWorks to develop intricate mold designs, including 3D models and 2D drawings of mold components. It is imperative that the designs adhere to specified requirements, ensuring dimensional accuracy, appropriate material selection, and manufacturability. Collaboration is a key aspect of this role, as the Mold Designer will work closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to fully understand project requirements and constraints. Effective communication with stakeholders is necessary to discuss design changes and updates, particularly when modifications are requested by customers. Additionally, the Mold Designer will provide technical support throughout the mold manufacturing process and will be responsible for training and developing junior designers. Quality assurance is another vital responsibility, which includes conducting thorough reviews and simulations of mold designs to identify potential issues. The Mold Designer will implement necessary design modifications to enhance mold performance and durability, participate in mold trials, and troubleshoot design-related issues. Monitoring critical-to-quality (CTQ) dimensions throughout the mold build process is essential to ensure product integrity. Documentation is also a significant part of the role, requiring the maintenance of detailed records of all design work, including revisions and updates. The Mold Designer must ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies in all designs, as well as create and update technical documentation and manuals for mold designs. Continuous improvement is encouraged, with the expectation that the Mold Designer will stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in mold design. Suggestions for improvements to internal design processes and practices are welcomed, and ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge are essential components of this position. It is important to note that this job description is not exhaustive and may evolve over time, with duties and responsibilities subject to change.
