  • Specimen processing and staining
  • Assists in preparing tissue for frozen sectioning on a STAT basis
  • Stains (Hematoxylin & Eosin Stains as well as special stains related to dermatologic specimens-Mel 5, HMB 45, etc.) and prepares slides for Mohs Surgeon to interpret
  • Performs microscopic examination to determine if the sections have been properly prepared and stained under supervision of Mohs Surgeon
  • Assist in daily instrument/equipment check for quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) purposes
  • Cleans, maintains, and calibrates all laboratory equipment involved in Mohs and other surgical procedures to obtain skin specimen
  • Maintains the cryostat machines in good working condition under supervision of the Histology Technician or Mohs Surgeon
  • Organizes the laboratory and chemical supplies in a manner consistent with chemical hygiene, blood pathogen, and other institutional requirements for proper laboratory function and safety
  • Adheres to principles of sanitation, health hazards, and hazardous waste disposal as determined by CLIA and State regulatory boards
  • Assists in maintaining procedure manuals, quality assurance, and quality control protocols
  • Remains current on clinical/ laboratory policy and procedures documents
  • Promotes the safety and quality of the laboratory
  • Communicates all primary information with the Mohs Surgeon/Manager or Histology Technician
  • Collects and records patient data
  • Files all pre-operative Mohs Sheets
  • Maintains Mohs Surgery Logbook
  • Records Mohs/dermatologic surgery statistics
  • Daily QC of staining, slide count, maintenance/cleaning of cryostat machines
  • Files all processed slides and stores them for 10 years
  • Assists physician with surgeries, clinic consults, patient visits, and all back office duties
  • Checks in Patient by escorting patients from reception area to exam room and communicates information regarding any extended wait or delay in appointment time
  • Accurately and efficiently takes vital signs and basic historical patient data and documents in the medical record
  • Communicates patient concerns or significant changes in patient's health status to physician or registered nurse
  • Prepares patients for examinations, assists with examinations, cast or splint applications, minor procedures, and a variety of other medically related tasks within the scope of knowledge
  • Assists in the care of Mohs surgery patients from pre-operative evaluation, intra-operative procedures and monitoring, and post-operative wound care and education
  • Assists in the coordination of clerical information necessary to provide patient care
  • Maintains patient medical record and other information, ensuring patient confidentiality
  • Assists patients with the arrangement of tests and treatments prescribed by physician
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments/supplies
  • Prepares, and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization and restocking of exam and treatment rooms
  • May administer injections as position requires: intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal
  • Current AHA/BLS certification - obtain within 30 days of hire
  • 1+ years of related experience
  • Experience in a Mohs surgery practice
  • Certification from WA State Department of Health as a certified Medical Assistant
  • Histo Tech Certification
  • 3+ years Mohs Laboratory Experience
  • Documented proof of 7 clock hours of Aids education
