About The Position

Join our dynamic team as a Mohs Technician, where you'll play a crucial role under the guidance of the Dermatology Director and Mohs Surgeon. Your expertise will extend to the use of special stains and immunohistochemistry, ensuring a thorough understanding of skin cancer cell identification, especially in melanoma cases. You will maintain a safe lab environment according to OSHA standards, using meticulous preparation, labeling, and storage of slides. Be prepared to contribute to a collaborative team, work independently, and adhere to hospital and university policies while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Your dedication will be pivotal in shaping a cutting-edge approach to dermatological care. You will interact with faculty, residents and clinical staff to solve any problems regarding worklists and other orders. Time and type of assignments may vary upon department guidelines. You will be required to work at multiple sites, be able to trouble shoot when necessary and contribute to the goals of a team environment. Travel to other locations as needed

Requirements

  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • At least 6 months Mohs Tissue Technician laboratory experience.
  • Good organizational skills are needed to maintain work flow
  • Knowledge of CLIA laboratory protocol
  • Knowledge of methods for operating laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards
  • Knowledge of CAP and JCAHO standards
  • Skills in accurate computer data entry in laboratory information systems.
  • Ability to maintain all block logs
  • Print grossing sheets and labels for slides
  • Perform routine staining procedures including but not limited to operating and maintaining slide staining.
  • Embed and cut tissue and place on the slide for staining.
  • Stain and cover slip slides for physician review.
  • Prepare for Mohs surgery by setting up cryostat, staining station, and supplies.
  • Follow specimen protocols and procedures within required timeframes for embedding frozen surgical specimens.
  • Float to other locations as needed
