About The Position

The Dermatology Department at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking a Mohs Technician at any level (I, II, or III) to support Mohs micrographic surgery within our laboratory. Whether you are beginning your laboratory career or bringing advanced histotechnology experience, we welcome candidates across all levels. The basic responsibilities and minimum qualifications for each level are outlined in the overview section below. This role supports precise tissue preparation and frozen section analysis to ensure accurate surgical margin assessment and high-quality patient care. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week day shift position, working Monday through Friday; no weekends or holidays required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Medical Technology and minimum of three (3) years of relevant laboratory experience OR Associates Degree and minimum of five (5) years of relevant laboratory experience OR nine (9) years of relevant laboratory experience
  • Completion of Mohs Technician III technical competency.
  • Certification required at hire: ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), or ASMH (American Society for Mohs Histotechnology), or Completion of Mohs Technician Advanced Training Course, or Equivalent credential approved by the Laboratory Director.
  • Advanced proficiency in cryostat sectioning and staining techniques.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory accreditation standards and quality systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex laboratory issues.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to manage workflow and support clinical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced tissue embedding, cryostat sectioning, staining, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensures accurate tissue orientation for margin assessment during Mohs procedures.
  • Oversees laboratory workflow, quality control, and equipment calibration.
  • Analyzes diagnostic test results and ensures accurate reporting.
  • Trains and guides Mohs Technician I and II staff in advanced methods.
  • Develops, updates, and enforces laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Maintains compliance with hospital, state, and accreditation standards.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
