About The Position

The Mohs Technician helps to provide quality patient care as a skilled member of the team in support of the Dermatologic Surgery/Mohs Surgical practice. Mohs Technicians perform Medical Assisting duties in support of the practice in addition to surgical assistance and helping to prepare specimen microscope slides for the Mohs surgeon to review. Intermountain offers employees up to $5,250 annually for education assistance and partners with schools for debt free programs In addition to clinical duties such as assisting the provider with examinations, procedures, treatments, intake triage as specified by the physician (which may include but is not limited to gathering chief complaint, history, vital signs, height, weight, OFC, care process model data, etc.), preparing and maintaining examination and treatment areas, and other interventions, Mohs Technicians also perform basic clerical and office duties. This includes assembling necessary documents and supplies, maintaining inventory of supplies, ordering and restocking as needed to ensure supply availability for patient care, effectively using computer applications as needed, maintaining medical and other records, scheduling, coordinating and monitoring appointments, inpatient/outpatient admissions, and test and treatment/procedure results. Under the direction of the provider the Mohs Technician may assign procedural and diagnostic coding to encounter forms, conduct pre-authorizations, manage referrals, pharmacy refills, etc. in accordance with third party insurer requirements. The Mohs Technician also helps to facilitate timely billing by completing the necessary documentation and may also perform other business and financial duties as assigned. The Mohs Technician actively participates in developing and revising laboratory procedures and training other employees. The Mohs Technician will maintain a working knowledge of the laboratory documentation process required to remain compliant with CLIA regulations and maintain a working knowledge of Cryostat and other laboratory equipment, troubleshooting skills, and an awareness of the factors that influence test results. The Mohs Technician adheres to all CLIA regulations, chemical hygiene protocols, and maintains skills competency in Mohs Surgery and working knowledge of industry trends by taking advantage of available educational opportunities as directed. The Mohs Technician also actively participates in quality improvement initiatives (i.e. CQI, TQM, Lean, 100% participation, etc.).

Requirements

  • Current BLS for Health Care Provider
  • One year of experience in a Mohs practice as a Mohs technician including preparation of at least 400 pathology slides (verified in background check) OR proof of completion of an medical assisting program
  • Demonstrated detail oriented and highly organized, with good manual dexterity and adequate visual acuity.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous training and /or experience in histology / Mohs laboratory.
  • Successful completion of a Mohs specific Quality Assurance training program recognized by a national professional organization.
