This non-regulated position will work with an assigned doctor during Mohs procedures. Duties include Mohs histology procedures, tracking of all submitted Mohs specimens for processing and diagnosis, and the necessary recording of Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the Mohs Lab.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology, or have an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
  • Familiarity with common medical terminology
  • Excellent oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must work well independently but ask for help when needed, analyze and interpret information, and interact and decipher information telephonically and electronically.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a CLIA-certified laboratory setting (Preferred).
  • 1-2 years of experience in skin pathology or as a histo-tech (Preferred)
  • Bilingual is not required, but preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for specimen handling, storage, preservation, and identification; freezing tissue and cutting frozen sections with a Microtone; staining and placing tissues on slides; and prepping reagents.
  • Is responsible for the disposal of stains and the upkeep of the work area.
  • Keeps equipment operational by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns to ensure optimal performance.
  • Updates OSHA and CLIA records.
  • Maintains patient identification.
  • Documents in EMR as appropriate.
  • Troubleshooting with fellow technicians and resolving problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting appropriate corrective steps.
  • Conforms to all applicable HIPAA and safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
