About The Position

Summary The Mohs Micrographic Surgeon is a board-certified or fellowship-trained dermatologist specializing in the surgical treatment of skin cancer using Mohs micrographic surgery. This role is responsible for the precise excision of cutaneous malignancies, immediate histologic evaluation of surgical margins, and reconstruction of surgical defects. The Mohs Surgeon plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining optimal clinical outcomes, efficiency, and safety in a high-volume dermatologic surgery setting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical & Surgical Care Perform Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and select melanomas Evaluate and manage patients pre-operatively and post-operatively Interpret frozen section histopathology slides to ensure complete tumor removal Perform surgical reconstruction, including primary closures, flaps, and grafts Manage surgical complications and provide appropriate follow-up care Pathology & Laboratory Oversight Oversee and participate in the preparation, processing, and interpretation of Mohs histology slides Ensure quality control and accuracy in tissue mapping and margin assessment Maintain compliance with laboratory regulations and standards Patient Care & Experience Provide compassionate, patient-centered care throughout the surgical process Educate patients on diagnoses, procedures, risks, benefits, and post-operative care Ensure a high level of patient satisfaction and clinical excellence Collaboration & Leadership Work closely with dermatologists, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff Supervise and support Mohs technicians, histotechnologists, and surgical assistants Contribute to clinical protocols, workflow optimization, and quality improvement initiatives Serve as a clinical leader within the practice Documentation & Compliance Accurately document all patient encounters, procedures, and pathology findings in the EMR Ensure timely completion of operative reports and billing documentation Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and all applicable federal and state regulations Maintain appropriate coding and billing practices for surgical procedures

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Completion of an accredited Dermatology Residency Program
  • Completion of an accredited Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship (ACGME-accredited or equivalent)
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in the State of [Insert State(s)]
  • Board Certified in Dermatology (or Board Eligible with certification in progress)
  • Fellowship-trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery
  • DEA license
  • Proven experience performing Mohs surgery independently
  • Expertise in complex closures, flaps, and grafts
  • Advanced expertise in cutaneous oncology and Mohs surgery techniques
  • Strong proficiency in histopathologic interpretation of frozen sections
  • Excellent surgical precision and reconstructive skills
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making ability
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

Responsibilities
