The Histologist position requires a high level of technical competency in various histology procedures. The role involves embedding tissue with correct orientation according to established protocols, cutting tissue blocks with high-quality microtomy, and grossing/dissecting patient samples with care. Additionally, the histologist must perform special stains manually with proper quality control, conduct IHC staining with appropriate quality control measures, and troubleshoot basic histology procedures. Clerical responsibilities in the Histology lab are essential for promoting proper communication and maintaining the chain of custody within Duly and other medical institutions. This includes filling out maintenance logs daily to ensure that machines are functioning optimally and under the correct laboratory conditions. The histologist will also be involved in RL6 investigations and support, effectively reporting and investigating patient safety incidents, medical errors, and potential risks in the facility. They will assist in identifying and implementing corrective actions where appropriate and will be responsible for investigating issues such as turnaround times with the lab, problems receiving supplies, and patient concerns, forwarding these issues to the correct leadership.
