About Redwood Materials Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2019, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have. Modeling and Architecture Engineer, Energy Storage You will be the technical lead of the Energy Storage Modeling and Architecture team, taking a hands-on role in the design, development, and integration of Redwood Energy’s second-life battery product. You will be the subject matter expert developing the multiphysics and technoeconomic modeling platform to drive the system design of this novel battery energy storage system. These models must be robust enough to size future projects with confidence, but agile enough to quickly drive a diverse array of design decisions. You will also be responsible for operationalizing these learnings into an algorithm that controls how each battery pack is used within our sites to maximize the value extracted before recycling. This model will drive operational parameters, such as SOC windows and charge and discharge powers, as well as the decision about when to replace a pack and with what to replace it with. The ideal candidate is highly self-driven, adaptable to a startup environment, and eager to take on novel technical challenges. They have experience leading modeling teams in battery energy storage or electric vehicle space but are still first principle thinkers with the ability to personally jumpstart new modeling efforts. If you’re excited about working in a dynamic, fast-paced setting within a new department at Redwood, we want to hear from you!
