The Model Shop Specialist is responsible for performing all duties associated with the role, including troubleshooting and resolving design, equipment, and operational difficulties in collaboration with engineering and supervisory personnel. The specialist supports the production machine shop by providing guidance on operational sequences and tools to achieve desired outcomes. A thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is essential, along with training in CMM operations for tolerancing and positional accuracy. The role involves calculating and writing programs for conversational CNC work centers to fabricate component parts according to engineering specifications. The specialist must handle walk-in work, which may require determining the development of mechanisms and details without compromising quality. Participation in Kaizens, such as SMEDs, is expected, along with developing knowledge of machining characteristics of various materials and metals. The role also requires critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills to identify alternative solutions.
