About The Position

The position is focused on managing the overall education of associates within the Advocate Christ Medical Center, specifically related to Mobility and Safe Patient Handling (SPH). The role involves identifying staff learning needs, developing educational programs, conducting training sessions, and ensuring accurate record-keeping of associate attendance. Requirements

  • Masters required; if Masters is not in Nursing, then Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum 4 years experience working within healthcare system.
  • Minimum 2 years management or educational experience e.g. CPS, Preceptor, Clinical Instructor.
  • Professional licensure in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the overall education of associates within the medical center relative to Mobility/SPH.
  • Identifies staff learning needs and provides/coordinates evidence-based learning opportunities that will increase staff’s knowledge and improve clinical performance.
  • Develops educational programs that advance the culture of safety and Mobility/SPH throughout the medical center.
  • Works collaboratively with staff throughout the medical center to increase competence and confidence in reducing the risk of injury to patients and staff.
  • Conducts training sessions routinely in a variety of settings, including new associate orientation, ongoing training, annual competency, etc.
  • Recruits and trains a cadre of educators from throughout the medical center, sufficient to assist with education as needed for the volume of associates on staff.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of trainers for all Mobility/SPH sessions.
  • Ensures accurate record keeping of associate attendance at programs.
  • Leads teams to address process issues that are identified as a result of error analysis, event review or input from associates, physicians or patients.
  • Works to improve internal processes that are found to have impact on Mobility/SPH.
  • Collaborates/communicates with Employee Health, Manager of Safety and department managers in order to trend injuries related to SPH quarterly.
  • Prepares action plan(s) according to trend analyses.
  • Submits a summary of strategies and effectiveness of strategies to reduce risk of injury related to SPH annually to various committees.
  • Serves as a liaison with the corporate office and other Advocate sites engaged in Mobility/SPH.
  • Audits/trends/implements action plan(s) as it pertains to Progressive Mobility IPOC.
  • Participates in the evaluation of and potential purchases for safe patient handling equipment.
  • Serves as a liaison for SPH needs during new/renovation construction plans.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest literature regarding Mobility/SPH, utilizing evidence-based practice to guide the culture toward safer outcomes.
  • Conducts weekly patient and associate safety rounds, speaking with associates, physicians, patients and their families to gather input on issues relating to Mobility/SPH.
  • Attends monthly ACMC Safety Committee meetings and reports into Advocate corporate SPH as needed.
  • Annual review and editing of SPH documents and resources including training competencies and policies.
  • Maintains monthly data log for the medical center, utilizing associate injury reports provided by employee health and safety manager.
  • Tracks and trends data from all aspects of the Mobility/SPH programs and utilizes the results to keep leaders informed of the program.
