Job Description: The Mobile Unit Driver is responsible for the safe operation and transportation of the DeKalb County Public Health Mobile Medical Unit throughout DeKalb County. This position ensures vehicle and equipment readiness, maintains cleanliness, supports outreach events, and assists with operational logistics to ensure successful mobile health services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Georgia Class “C” vehicle operator’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years or more of directly related driving experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the Mobile Medical Vehicle as part of routine job duties.
  • Verify operational readiness of the vehicle and all onboard equipment prior to and after each scheduled event.
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of the mobile unit before, during, and after community visits.
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain adequate fuel levels and ensure the vehicle remains mechanically sound.
  • Load and unload equipment and supplies assigned.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure items are properly secured during transport.
  • Maintain accurate mileage and travel logs and prepare required reports.
  • Read maps, estimate travel times, and follow assigned routes and schedules.
  • Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Respond to emergency situations appropriately and within scope of practice until professional assistance arrives.
  • Provide superior customer service at outreach sites to ensure participant safety, satisfaction, and a positive community experience.
  • Follow instructions provided by supervisors, coordinators, and managers.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings as requested.
  • Work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends, are based on community event needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
