About The Position

The Mobile Phlebotomist is responsible for providing clinical pre-analytical laboratory services in a mobile setting, primarily visiting nursing homes. Under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, the role involves collecting and processing specimens from patients, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining communication with dispatchers. This part-time position requires excellent communication skills and a valid phlebotomy license.

Requirements

  • Current, valid State phlebotomy license (if required).
  • Current, valid State Driver's license; car insurance; good driving record; and a vehicle in good working condition suitable for daily driving requirements.
  • Proficient in venipuncture and skin puncture using both vacutainer and syringe techniques.
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations.
  • Ability to maintain sterile, sanitary conditions to prevent contamination.
  • Excellent communication and interaction skills specific to the population served, including pediatric and geriatric communities.

  • Technical/other training or better than High School education.

Responsibilities

  • Drive vehicle to client facilities, typically nursing homes, as directed by company dispatcher.
  • Unload phlebotomy tray and take it to the patient's bedside to collect samples ordered by the physician.
  • Accurately identify patients before collecting specimens.
  • Collect, label, process, and deliver specimens obtained from patients.
  • Reload equipment and all necessary specimens to the vehicle for prompt delivery.
  • Regularly communicate with dispatcher to report status and location.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions in controlling blood-borne pathogens and infectious disease exposures.
  • Maintain required certifications, health requirements, and operational requirements.
  • Keep work area clean and follow all required safety precautions.
  • Report any unsafe conditions in the workplace and any complaints or problems encountered.
  • Monitor supplies inventory and report low stock or out-of-stock situations.
  • Identify and segregate any expired supplies.
  • Report to work promptly, properly groomed, and wear proper identification at all times when visiting a facility.
  • Accurately maintain time records of hours worked and deliver them to the company as directed.
  • Manage assigned shift to include meal breaks.
  • Follow all specimen preservation, patient preparation, and specimen management processes and procedures as written.
