About The Position

This position will provide outreach, assessment, information, referrals, and direct service to the homeless population who come to the Mobile Outreach Unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelors' Degree preferred with a social work major preferred, but other human service fields will be considered.
  • CADC or an MSW with a license is required.
  • If not CADC certified, able to obtain certification within 2 years of hire.
  • Minimum two years' experience with the homeless population and in substance abuse treatment.
  • A commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • An excellent attention to detail, procedures, processes, and policies.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage projects, priorities, and programs in a constantly changing environment.
  • A communication and management style that exhibits the principles and values of the Army as well as fosters team relationships and effectively communicates information.
  • A flexible style that also displays a willingness to learn.
  • Able to work as a team member as well as individually.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor and other support and clinical staff.
  • Have an understanding of diverse populations and cultural issues.
  • Have an understanding of addiction issues and principals.
  • A "hands on" knowledge of how to effectively work with diversity in the workplace.
  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Director of Community Social Services informed on all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
  • This position is required to do light to strenuous physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and PC.
  • Must be able to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 50+lbs.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office and outside environment with a low to high noise level.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather elements including severe conditions.
  • Will work inside a mobile feeding truck that drives and makes frequent stops on a regular daily basis.
  • Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.

Responsibilities

  • Assessments are provided of the client's needs to determine appropriate services. Information and assistance is provided in finding solutions to their homeless situation. Referrals to an appropriate service or agency are made if applicable.
  • Direct assistance in handing out clothing vouchers, coat vouchers, blankets, etc. is given as available.
  • Clients with substance abuse issues are assessed for proper treatment.
  • Relationships are established with a variety of community agencies to find services appropriate for the needs of the clients.
  • Interacts with the homeless population served by the Mobile Outreach Unit to initiate and build relationships.
  • Assists with set up and clean-up of the Mobile Outreach Unit as part of the Mobile Outreach Team.
  • All other duties as assigned.
