About The Position

Under the guidance of the AMHS Crisis Services Coordinator or Supervisor, the staff functions as a master's level professional clinician, delivering a range of both direct and indirect crisis intervention services for adult mental health and substance abuse issues. The Mental Health Therapist (MHT) conducts screenings for psychiatric needs in various settings, including the office, emergency rooms, homes, community locations, and collaborates with local law enforcement. The MHT makes recommendations for referrals to different AMHS/ITRS programs or other community service providers. Additionally, the MHT engages in consultations with other service providers and is accountable for all case documentation. By interviewing and observing consumers, the MHT evaluates their strengths. In collaboration with the consumers, the MHT develops a disposition that includes comprehensive safety planning and is responsible for executing all program and sub-unit activities in alignment with CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field is required.
  • Two years of experience (professional or paraprofessional) in treating or working with adults with mental illness required.
  • Two years of professional experience providing crisis intervention techniques, determining hospital eligibility, performing clinical diagnostic assessments/evaluations, and brief counseling techniques required.
  • Possession of appropriate State of Michigan credential is required.
  • Candidate must be able to work well with others.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively both verbally and in writing required.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and access to reliable means of transportation for job related use required.
  • Employment offers for this position will be contingent upon the results of a background verification, and credentialing procedure consisting of: Michigan State Police clearance check, verification of a professional license, Medicaid/Medicare verification, verification of an acceptable Michigan driving record, educational background check, and verification of an acceptable work history.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
