About The Position

As a Mobile Fleet Mechanic, you will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Martin Marietta’s diesel-powered mobile equipment across various sites. Your expert mechanical skills will support our production goals, while adhering to the company’s strong safety and compliance standards. You’ll diagnose, repair, maintain, and overhaul heavy-duty trucks, loaders, haulers, and other heavy mobile equipment often performing field-based repairs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics is preferred.

  • You must be able to lift and carry up to 75–100 lbs.
  • Frequent climbing (ladders and stairs), balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling are required. You may often need to work in cramped quarters or lie on your back for prolonged periods while performing repairs.
  • Expect prolonged standing and walking on uneven terrain common to aggregate quarries.
  • You need strong depth perception to work safely around moving heavy machinery and the ability to distinguish mechanical malfunctions by sound.
  • All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system failures on diesel-powered heavy equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including oil and filter services, lubrication, and brake and driveline inspections.
  • Perform welding and fabrication as and when needed and adhere to Martin Marietta safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Oversee the major/mini mobile equipment maintenance and address the gaps to supervisor.
  • Rebuild components, install replacement parts, and execute intermediate repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate repairs.
  • Use hand and power tools, pressure and electrical test equipment to verify equipment performance and diagnose faults.
  • Conduct pre-shift safety inspections in accordance with MSHA and company guidelines to ensure operational readiness.
  • Maintain and manage parts inventories; order supplies in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Operate haul trucks and loaders as needed to support repair and maintenance activities safely.
  • Mentor and train junior technicians or less-experienced mechanics as part of skills development.
  • Collaborate with shop supervisors to prioritize work orders and organize field maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all repair documentation and inspection reports are completed accurately and submitted on time.
