About The Position

SIH Community Benefits works to “improve the health and well-being of all the people in the communities we serve.” One of these strategies as outlined in the SIH Community Health Needs Assessment is to utilize a mobile kitchen to provide nutrition education throughout southern Illinois. This position will work with SIH Community Benefits, University of Illinois Extension and other community partners to provide this outreach/education. Travel within the SIH counties of Jackson, Franklin, Williamson, Perry, Saline, Union and Johnson will be of primary focus with occasional trips to other counties across the lower 16 counties of Illinois. This position will be as needed, expecting it to average approximately 28 hours per month.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Illinois Driver’s License (CDL Preferred) with a good driving record
  • Experience working in underserved, disadvantaged, and vulnerable communities.
  • Experience working with indigent and culturally diverse populations.
  • Effective communications skills and ability to work with community members/partners in an informal setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills, as well as a strong desire to help others.
  • Excellent listening skills: non-judgmental, flexible and able to deal with complex situations.
  • Intermittent hand manipulation required
  • Intermittent lifting and carrying of 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting would be advantageous.
  • Relevant experience in patient education, health education, and in supporting behavior change relative to prevention and chronic disease management preferred.
  • Experience or lived within the 16-county community served by this position.

Responsibilities

  • Drives Mobile Kitchen to scheduled events across the 16-county region.
  • Ensure Mobile Kitchen set-up and take-down processes are completed at community events, with assistance from others.
  • Collaborate with Healthy Southern Illinois Delta Network partners to host successful events.
  • Communicates with the SIH Community Benefits Community Health Coordinator to schedule the driving to events appropriate for the Mobile Kitchen, approximately 3 events pers month.
  • Maintains tracking system for supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains the company vehicle to ensure that vehicle is in safe operating condition and assures operational readiness.
  • Assist community-based organizations as appropriate with scheduled events and maintain records of clients served.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Attends departmental and other meetings and training as necessary.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned based on the needs related to the drop off and pick up of the Mobile Kitchen.
