About The Position

Operate and maintain the mobile food pantry, and provide crisis assistance with grocery items to those in need. Keep supplies on hand, prepare orders, distribute food, and recruit and oversee volunteers. This position is for 7.5 hours per week. The scheduled would be one day a week, one Thursday and one Friday and the other two days of the month are negotiable. This position can be combined, if applied, to the Office Assistant position to make it 25 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High school / General education diploma.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Ability to accept instructions and apply them in a logical and responsible manner and to make productive use of unsupervised time.
  • Sensitivity and respect for populations of individuals who may be considered marginalized regarding their socio-economic, emotional, physical, and spiritual backgrounds and the ability to work within a team concept and the philosophy of the agency mission.
  • Initiative, maturity, and flexibility.
  • Meets the public in a caring and courteous manner.
  • Good physical condition, capable of performing necessary lifting, uses proper safety techniques.
  • Good writing skills and telephone manners.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food orders for distribution in rural areas.
  • Answer phone regarding food pantry issues.
  • Be on hand when food arrives and check all items for usability, and stock shelves.
  • Carry in food, as help is required.
  • Keep daily records i.e. volunteer and daily disbursement sheets.
  • Pick up food from donors, Food Bank, or from stores as necessary.
  • Maintain and order supplies.
  • Maintain mobile food pantry by utilizing a regular cleaning schedule.
  • Take out pantry garbage.
  • Maintain food pantry vehicle and alert supervisor for maintenance immediately.
  • Actively communicate with the supervisor regarding shortages, special needs, etc.
  • Treat clients with respect, dignity, and firmness with regards to the mobile food pantry rules.
  • Maintain regular communication with regular donors i.e. church secretaries.
  • Contact donors as needed to keep pantry supplies by calling on schools, and assisting supervisor with development of new donors.
  • Recruit, provide orientation, schedule, and provide assistance for volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
