About The Position

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1 WS209 $33,405 - $60,112 ($16.06/hr. min.) MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2 WS210 $35,734 - $64,314 ($17.18/hr. min) FUNCTION OF WORK: To operate mobile equipment (such as that enumerated below) to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks. LEVEL OF WORK: Experienced or Advanced SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General from a foreman or other higher-level maintenance, supervisory, or administrative personnel. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May exercise functional over lower graded equipment operators or laboring personnel. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator--Light by the requirement to operate larger mobile equipment with more complicated operating and handling characteristics. Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction to primary operation of equipment that is lighter and/or less complicated to operate.

Requirements

  • Mobile Equipment Operator 1 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No experience or training is required. Operates field tractor with power ratings up to and including 52 horsepower; tractors may be equipped with attachments such as bush hogs, belly attachments, blades, loaders, hoes, etc. Operates field tractors with gang mowers up to eight feet across. Operates dump trucks with rated capacity of six yards or less. Operates vans and stake-body or flatbed trucks with load ratings over one ton and up to four tons. Operates buses with 12 to 25 passenger capacity. Operates forklifts with lifting capacity over 10,000 lbs. or lift height over 12 feet. Operates steel wheel rollers. Transports patients, students, workers, or other persons between homes and institutions, on trips on and/or off institution or agency grounds. Operates auxiliary equipment such as asphalt kettle, mud jack, concrete mixer (over two bag capacity), air compressor, jack- hammer, etc. as required. Provides guidance to and oversees work of lower graded operators and laborers, as required. May be required to operate any equipment enumerated for the Mobile Equipment Operator--Light when necessary to accomplish work objectives. Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order. Operates front end-loaders, dump trucks, and other equipment in the maintenance and repair of railroad tracks.
  • Mobile Equipment Operator 2 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience in mobile equipment operations. Transports patients, students, workers, or other persons between homes and institutions on trips, between-points on and/or off institution or agency grounds. Oversees and assists with loading and unloading of vehicle if required. Maintains vehicle records of trips made (mileage, oil and gas consumption, etc.). Operates field tractors with power ratings over 52 horse power; tractors may be equipped with attachments such as bush hogs, belly attachments, blades, hoes, loaders, etc. Operates field tractors with gang mowers over eight feet across or slope mower. Operates dump truck with rated capacity over 6 yards. Operates cargo vans and/or stake body or flatbed trucks with ratings over 4 tons, other than tractor-trailers. Operates buses with over 25 passenger capacity. Operates winch trucks, A frame trucks, aerial back lift trucks, pole trucks, and/or trailer. Operates sign truck. Operates BOB-CAT tractor. Operates garbage or trash trucks with hydraulic loader or compactor. May provide guidance to and oversee the work of lower graded operators and laborers in the maintenance and repair of railroad tracks or other tasks, as required. May also operate auxiliary equipment such as slurry machine, asphalt tank car heater, and auxiliary equipment listed for Mobile Equipment Operator 1. May be required to operate any equipment enumerated for Mobile Equipment Operator 1 when necessary to accomplish work objectives. May perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guard rail, fencing, fender systems, and cabling at moveable bridges and other structures. Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.

Responsibilities

  • Mobile Equipment Operator 1 Job Duties (LSUA Specific) 50% Operates forklift to transport, load, unload and store supplies and equipment. Operates and maintains front-end loader and box blade attachment. Makes minor repairs to and cleans equipment as necessary to keep it in good working order. Operates and performs preventative maintenance on ALL lawn equipment. Operates weed-eaters, edgers, blowers and additional handheld power equipment. Operates commercial mowers.
  • 20% Operates tractor to pick up trash from campus buildings and empty into dumpster behind Facility Services building. Operates golf cart to pick up campus mail from mailroom and deliver to various departments on campus.
  • 20% Performs various mechanical work on all equipment at Facility Services including but not limited to all tractors, lawn mowers, power equipment and all vehicles in the fleet, including inspections and oil changes.
  • 5% Operates trucks with trailers for hauling materials, equipment, and supplies on and off campus.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Mobile Equipment Operator 2 Job Duties (LSUA Specific) 60% Operates and performs preventative maintenance on field tractors with bushhogs, blades and loader, etc. Operates and performs preventative maintenance on all lawn equipment. Makes minor repairs to and cleans equipment as necessary to keep in good working order. Operators weed eaters, edger, blowers, chainsaws, pressure washers and additional handheld power equipment. Operates forklift to transport, load, unload, and store supplies and equipment.
  • 30% Operates tractor and/or golf carts to pick up trash from campus buildings and empty into dumpster behind Operations and Maintenance Building. Operates golf cart to pick up campus mail items and deliver to various departments on campus when needed.
  • 5% Operates University trucks with trailers for hauling materials, equipment and supplies on and off campus.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
