About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking applicants for the position of Mobile Equipment Operator. This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled at different levels (Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2, or Heavy) based on the experience of the selected applicant(s). The role involves operating various types of mobile equipment for transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks. No Civil Service test score is required for consideration. The position requires a valid driver's license depending on the level of the operator role. The starting salary varies by level, with additional pay for hours worked and potential increases upon attaining permanent status. Requirements

• No experience or training is required.
• Must possess a Class D Chauffeurs License for Mobile Equipment Operator 1.
• Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License for Mobile Equipment Operator 2 and Heavy.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as asphalt distributors, backhoes, front end loaders, cranes, dozers, dump trucks, and more.
• Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Shovel asphalt, dig footings for concrete forms, and place traffic control devices.
• Attend required training in accordance with the Department's Structured Training Program.
• Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) as required for certain operator levels.
• Assist in training lower level operators or laborers.
• Perform emergency/disaster support activities as necessary.

Benefits

• Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hourly with an additional $1.00/hour for all hours worked.
• Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly with an additional $1.00/hour for all hours worked.
• Starting salary for MEO-1 Heavy is $21.05/hourly.
• 10% base pay increase upon attainment of permanent status.
