About The Position

Under the supervision of the truck shop supervisor, performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all motorized equipment and vehicles. This position will also assist the mechanical maintenance group with plant maintenance as required. Interpret shop manuals and troubleshooting guides. Inspect equipment reported to be out of order to determine the extent of repair required. Operate automotive and heavy machinery diagnostic equipment. Dismantle equipment as necessary to correct the unit failure, assemble and adjust, i.e. overhaul engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc. Requisition parts and supplies needed for the job. Operate to field test light and heavy equipment. Steam clean and lubricate vehicles. Do complete tune-ups on all gasoline engines. Welding and structural repair on large units. Document repairs and lubrication performed. Keep work areas clean and wash out work bays. Work with other mechanics to ensure timely recovery and return of equipment to the ready line. Will maintain a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices, perform daily housekeeping of assigned areas, perform daily workplace inspections, adhere to plant policies and proper use of plant radios. Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, safety procedures for plant mobile equipment, lockout/Tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials. Ensure quality of work performed, participate in continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure. Will work where and when needed as directed by plant supervisory personnel to meet plant needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Trade school or vo-tech certification with an emphasis on troubleshooting and overhauling diesel and gasoline engines
  • 3+ years of experience as a mobile or heavy equipment mechanic
  • 3+ years machinery and heavy equipment maintenance experience
  • Basic welding skills
  • Basic fabrication and layout skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products

Nice To Haves

  • SAP experience preferred, but not required
