About The Position

UnityPoint Health is seeking compassionate and resilient individuals to join our Mobile Crisis Response Team. As a Mobile Crisis On-Call Counselor, you will provide on-site support and consultation to clients experiencing mental health crises in community or home settings. This role is vital in helping individuals achieve stability during critical moments.

Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following criteria: A mental health professional as defined in Iowa Code section 228.1. A bachelor’s degree, a n associate’s degree, or a high school diploma.
  • Depending on an employee’s education level, the following levels of associated experience will be required: A mental health professional: 1 year MH experience. A bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours or equivalent in a human services field (including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, nursing, education): a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services. A bachelor’s degree in a non-human services related field: a minimum of two years of experience in behavioral or mental health services. Associate’s degree: a minimum of two years of experience in behavioral or mental health services. High school diploma: a minimum of two years of experience in behavioral or mental health services.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet Eyerly Ball’s auto insurance policy holder requirements.
  • Pass criminal records/dependent adult/child abuse checks completed by your employer.
  • Must be able to tolerate a high stimulus environment, frequent interruptions, and changes in work priorities.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from medical professionals, management, staff, clients, and the public.
  • Able to speak, read, write fluent English with ability to write legibly, and understand common terminology of the mental health field.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a multiple variables.
  • Possess teamwork skills including problem solving, cooperation, communication, stating opinions and negotiating.
  • Knowledge of effects of mental illness and ability to relate respectfully to a wide range of client deficits and abilities both individually and in groups.
  • Possess a high degree of empathy and understanding, the ability to maintain boundaries and a professional distance from consumers, and must enjoy working with people.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and be well organized.
  • Must have an excellent attendance record.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Have access to a reliable vehicle while on shift.
  • Possess a working telephone.
  • Have reliable internet access while on shift.
  • Have access to equipment necessary to complete required documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis response and intervention to clients on crisis calls in community or home settings where the crisis is occurring.
  • Complete related data entry and documentation in accordance with agency policy.
  • During an on-call shift, be available by telephone and be prepared to respond to calls within a 1-hour physical response region while coordinating with the on-call partner.
