About The Position

A position in the Missouri Department of Corrections is more than a job; it's a calling. This Correctional Officer position is assigned to the Mobile Custody Team and requires extensive travel statewide. The official domicile for this position is at the Ozark Correctional Center in Fordland, MO, but the officer will travel to various DAI facilities across Missouri to assist with staffing needs as approved by the respective Deputy Division Director. The annual salary for this position is $45,104.40, based on a normal 40-hour workweek. The position is eligible for retention/longevity pay, shift differential, and overtime pay in accordance with departmental policy. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 12 PM (noon) to 12 AM (midnight). Mobile Custody Team Officers are expected to report to the Ozark Correctional Center by noon each Monday to receive orders on which facility the team will assist. They will return to the Ozark Correctional Center at approximately midnight on Friday of each week. While on assignment, officers will be provided a state vehicle for transportation, lodging while traveling, and reimbursement for meals not provided by the institution or hotel. Officers may be required to carpool in the state vehicle and may need to share accommodations while traveling. The Mobile Custody Team Officer will maintain security in buildings, towers, and other posts of an adult correctional facility. They will intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders. Responsibilities include supervising the movement of offenders inside and outside the correctional facility, conducting periodic counts, searching offenders and their living quarters for contraband, and escorting or transporting offenders to predetermined locations. Officers will supervise offenders in housing units, during work activities, recreational and religious activities, and visits, as well as search visitors, offenders, buildings, and grounds for contraband. They will conduct inspections for health and safety hazards and prepare reports on offender violations, unusual behaviors, and security breaches. Additionally, officers will discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders and refer serious issues to the appropriate staff, promoting rehabilitation by modifying offenders' social attitudes and encouraging positive activities. This position may also involve performing other related work as assigned.
