About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY All UAMS employees will treat others with Dignity and Respect. The mission of the UAMS Winthrop Rockefeller Cancer Institute Mobile Lung Screening Program is to increase cancer screenings and cancer education throughout Arkansas with particular focus on our rural underserved counties where screening is not accessible. The CT Technologist will be responsible for providing quality diagnostic imaging for medical interpretation. Duties will include operating CT equipment, handling patients, post-processing of images, working with electronic medical records, communication with physicians and other services/departments. This position requires travel with occasional overnight stays that are scheduled well in advance to allow for personal arrangements. Sometimes trip schedules include departures/arrivals after hours or on weekends, e.g., departure on a Sunday afternoon or returning on a Friday evening. The position also requires a commercial driver’s license (CDL) to drive the Lung CT van as needed. Training will be provided.

Requirements

  • HS diploma/GED PLUS Graduate of an approved Radiology program
  • New graduate or less than one (1) year of experience
  • Registry eligible - or registered - by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist
  • ART license must be obtained prior to start date and CT Advanced Certification obtained within 12 months of hire
  • Obtain an Arkansas Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) within 3 months of hire date.
  • Effective Communication: The technologist must be able to communicate with patients, physicians, clinics, and other services in the hospital and community in an effective, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Professional Development: The technologist is responsible for maintaining their professional license(s), National Registry, and all annual competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains specialized radiologic equipment (CT).
  • Performs high quality lung imaging exams.
  • Performs quality testing on CT and documents results.
  • Reports technical problems to supervisor and vendor for further assessment and resolution under service agreement terms.
  • Cleans equipment after each exam.
  • Obtains data/scores from Radiology Dept. to track quality of images and undertakes any training that may be required to ensure all exams are satisfactory.
  • Documents quality data.
  • Communicates CT exam procedures to patients and enlists patient cooperation in positioning for radiological examination.
  • Assists with records management and scheduling appointments.
  • Obtains patient history and enters into Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Schedules exams and reviews previous records to determine correct studies are performed.
  • Ensures exams are completed and images are transferred to Picture Archiving and Communication (PACS) systems.
  • Drives mobile lung screening van to events as needed; sets up equipment and van for screening procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining the van in good condition and with stocking all items essential for events and patient care.
  • Maintains valid CDL.
  • Maintains knowledge of lung procedures including ultrasound biopsy, stereotactic biopsy, MRI guided biopsy, and needle localizations through continuing education and professional development.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
