The Summer internship program within Research and Development at BD provides students with an opportunity to work on engineering projects and gain experience in the medical device industry. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at BD, you will Join a dynamic Hardware Engineering team (Electrical/Mechanical). During this internship you will collaborate with a diverse range of colleagues from Sr/Staff level engineers to fellow interns from multiple groups on projects in R&D. The focus will be in implementation of new technologies, MCAD design and support, prototyping and bring up for new products as well as feasibility and performance simulation.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or relative technical degree such as Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Familiar with SolidWorks CAD design.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Willing to work onsite 40 hours per week for the duration of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Validation and Verification tools such as FEA, tolerance analysis.
  • Experience in Technical Writing (Reports, test protocols)
  • MS/PhD
  • Prior internship/co-op experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform Mechanical CAD design based on characteristics of the existing Alaris system, consultation with other engineering staff, and system functional requirements
  • Perform mechanical implementation, following guidelines and taking into account system characteristics to produce optimal performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Conduct mechanical evaluation by conducting DoE, FEA, and tolerance analysis.
  • Rapid prototyping and evaluation of concepts for feasibility and continuous iterations.
  • Assist the engineering staff in clarifying requests for mechanical changes
