The Laboratory Student is responsible for working in Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology, as well as possibly phlebotomy. The Laboratory Student will set up Microbiology specimens for culture, perform waived testing under the direction of the staff technologists, monitor pending lists, and any other duties that do not require laboratory professional certification and a state license. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: , centrifugation of specimens, performing serology, loading specimens onto analyzers, etc. The Laboratory Student will also be responsible for clerical duties including faxing, answering phones, running the pneumatic tube system and working on the computer registering and ordering reference labs from other healthcare facilities. They must always keep hospital and patient information confidential at all times. Must have good communication skills when dealing with patients and/or visitors and must show a caring and giving attitude and know that the care of the patient is the most important job. Must be able to work individually but also as a team with the non- technical staff with- in the lab and outside customers of the lab.
