Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science and documentation of clinical laboratory training, or experience in high-complexity testing.
  • Medical Lab Technician (ASCP or ASCP-International) or Medical Lab Technician (AMT) or eligible for certification and pass within one (1) year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures and associated corrective actions according to policy/procedure.
  • Manages/performs other aspects of daily lab operations including collections, sample processing, result reporting/distribution, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties as required to maintain efficient work flow.
  • Interacts with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians and patients regarding specimens and orders coming into the Laboratory and/or reporting results out according to the policies and procedures of the Laboratory Services.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and system; understands, communicates and complies with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies.
  • Ensures safe care to patients and adheres to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications.
  • Initiates/oversees inventory checks, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
  • Supports system and hospital customer service and quality initiatives.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with other employees and customers.
  • May take part in the interview process of job applicants.
  • Models Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
