About The Position

JOB SUMMARY The Laboratory Technologist performs in-vitro analysis of biologic specimens according to established procedures for routine and specialized areas of the Laboratory. This individual also participates in supportive functions including but, not limited to quality control, instrument operation, troubleshooting, training and problem resolution. JOB SUMMARY The Medical Technologist performs in-vitro analysis of biologic specimens according to established procedures for routine and specialized areas of the Laboratory. This individual also participates in supportive functions including but, not limited to quality control, instrument operation, troubleshooting, teaching/training and problem resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of clinical laboratory science courses, or 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or clinical laboratory science in any combinations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), Chemical, physical, or Biological.
  • If Bachelor’s degree is not a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Scientist program, such as having a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry, then ASCP certification is required at the time of hire or transferring into that role
  • Certification or eligibility for certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or (AMT) American Medical Technologist. Certification is required within 6 months of hire. Individuals in this role prior to January 1, 2018 are exempt from the ASCP or AMT certification requirement. Categorical certifications are also acceptable which include yet not limited to: Technologist in Chemistry (C ), Technologist in Hematology (H), and Technologist in Microbiology (M).

Nice To Haves

  • Major in biology, microbiology, or molecular biology.
  • One or more years working in a laboratory.
  • Previous experience with lab instrumentation and testing.
  • Medical Technology student internship highly recommended.
  • Previous laboratory experience is recommended.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems is beneficial.
