About The Position

The position involves performing and monitoring a variety of laboratory testing and analysis, with a focus on problem resolution, quality control, and maintenance under minimal supervision. The role requires adherence to compliance plans and a commitment to the organization's values and code of conduct. The technician will also participate in training programs and assist in the training and documentation of competencies for students and new employees. Additionally, the technician will be involved in quality assurance activities and communicate effectively with lab leadership and other hospital personnel.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in lab science or Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a nationally recognized board/agency.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain a professional image and behavior.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge and technical proficiency in areas assigned within the laboratory.
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory medicine and techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year experience upon completion of associate degree.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
  • Complies with all HIPAA standards.
  • Participates in training or teaching programs by providing instruction on basic theory, technical skills, and application of all test procedures.
  • Assists in training and documentation of competencies for student and new employees.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements in the laboratory.
  • Assists with root cause analysis of occurrence events and determines acceptable corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Understands and complies with good laboratory practice, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Participates in readiness and internal and external inspections as needed.
  • Performs, documents, reviews, and monitors quality assurance activities under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Evaluates, plans, and validates new processes/techniques, procedures, and equipment following established guidelines.
  • Communicates to Lab Leadership on concerns affecting laboratory operations.
  • Communicates and reports results, critical values, and testing delays to physicians, nursing staff, clients, and other hospital personnel.
  • Handles problems with customers, physicians, and other hospital staff and responds to their needs in a timely manner.
  • Performs waived, moderate, and/or high complexity analytical processes without direct supervision.
  • Determines suitability of specimen for analysis, following established procedures, policies, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates skills in specimen receiving, processing, including the LIS.
  • Performs waived, moderate and high complexity analytical processes, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting per manufacturer standards.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of reagents and supplies.
