This position is responsible for conducting a variety of tests on patient samples (blood, various body fluids, cells, and tissue, etc.) to detect the presence or absence of health conditions. Using biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers to study samples obtained from patients, the Medical Laboratory Scientist provides data to physicians and health care providers for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.   • Conducting a variety of tests on patient samples (blood, various body fluids, cells, and tissue, etc.) to detect the presence or absence of health conditions.
  • Using biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers to study samples obtained from patients
  • Providing data to physicians and health care providers for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Associate's degree and successful completion of a National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited medical laboratory technician program is required, OR Associate's degree and at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and successful completion of 50 week US military medical laboratory training course, or Associate's degree and at least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours chemistry and 6 hours biology and 3 years full time lab experience in an accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.
  • Physician Practice: Associate's degree in Laboratory Sciences (including chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory) is required.
  • 1 year of internal service as a Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT I) within HSHS laboratories is required.
  • Medical Technician or Medical Laboratory Technician certification is required by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as: - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)- National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA)- American Medical Technologies (AMT)- Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW)- or other laboratory certifying agency is required.
  • Physician Practice: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification is required.
  • 3 years total Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) experience is preferred.
